Understanding the Internet of Things? The future of IoT and kegs.

Understanding IoT :  What is the Internet of Things?

In recent years, the term "Internet of Things"(IoT) has become increasingly popular, promising to revolutionize the way we live and work. But what exactly is IoT, how does it work, and how does it apply to keg tracking and the beer industry?

What is IoT?

IoT is the way that devices and machines, like your phone, fridge or keg, can connect to each other through the internet and share information. This makes it easier to keep everything running smoothly as well as collect data from all the different connected devices.

How Does IoT Work?

  1. Sensors and Devices: A sensor can feel or measure things, like temperature or movement. These sensors collect important data from their surroundings. 📊
  2. Sending Data: After collecting the data, the sensors send it to a computer or an app using the internet.  Similar to sending a text message. 📱💬
  3. Making Decisions: Once the data is received, it’s analysed to help make decisions. For example, if a room is too hot, the system might turn on the air conditioner automatically. ❄️
  4. User Control: You can also control IoT devices from your phone or computer. Want to turn on the lights before you get home? Or see where your beer keg is located?  IoT can do that. 💡

Why Is IoT Important?

IoT is becoming more important as the number of connected devices is expected to double by 2030, with over 25 billion connections, including nearly 2 billion focused on asset tracking. Businesses need to adopt IoT to transform and digitise their supply chains.

IoT will power real-time tracking, better use of assets, predictive maintenance, and data-driven insights, all of which are essential for businesses to stay valuable in the future.

Why IoT for kegs?

IoT kegs, or 'smart' kegs, enable real-time visibility and provide actionable insights to overcome challenges in operating keg fleets, such as complex supply chains, condition-based products, and lost kegs.

Katch IoT Tracking

The Katch tracking device connects to the Konvoy Cloud via a cellular connection.  Sensors embedded inthe Katch device scan every 10 minutes to capture multiple data points such as location, movement and temperature.  Key events are captured along the supply chain and converted in to simple, actionable insights in Konvoy Cloud.
